Owing to Archbishop Lang’s translation to the Archbishopric of Canterbury, the King has appointed Rt. Rev. W. Temple, Bishop of Manchester, to the Archbishopric of York. !’ ; The Bev_ Temple’s father was a former Archbishop of Canterbury. The Rev. Temple announced at Convocation in 1918 that ho had joined the Socialist party. Ho always had a deep interest in social questions. Early last year ho deplored the introduction of tho Government’s Trades Disputes’ Bill. He supported the -Revised Prayer Book and is regarded as something of a modernist and a supporter of ,tho “Centro” Party in the Church',
