FEILDING JOCKEY CLUB
ANNUAL REPORT. The annual meeting of the Feilding Jockcy Club is to be held to-night when the following annual report will be presented:— The net profit from the totalisator shows an increase on last year, but-un-fortunately some sources of revenue, namely, gates, entfy fees, and members’ subscriptions show a decrease. It will, however, be seen by the balancesheet that, after writing off substantial sum of £1530/4/- xor depreciation, £202/15/6 has been carried to capital account. • .During the year £1092/16/1 has been spent on improving the racing track. The chief work in this connection has been the linking up of the old track with the new portion formed last year, and considerably widening the straight. This work has been well done under the careful supervision , of our caretaker, Mr. Carter, and a start wiii shortly bo made with the necessary fencing. It is anticipated that the course will bo in first class order for our next spring meeting. Your, committee, for various reasons decided to discontinue proceeding further with Mr. Hill’s plans, and devised a scheme whereby the old . lay out of arrangements is being retained, but on a larger scale. Mr' Hood was appointed architect to the club, and! a considerable portion of the work entailed under this scheme is now well under way. It consists briefly as fallows: A new stewards’ and members' stand to accommodate over 500 people, including owners, trainers, and pressmen-, a contract for this- has ojoen accepted at the very satisfactory figure of £3150; birdcage and saddling, paddock to bo enlarged and new stalls erected with modern washei&uid sand roll; new water mains and sewerage system. It is also hoped to erect a new publican |s bar, inorder that the whole of the space under the public stand may be available for luncheon and afternoon tea. In November last Mr. Edmund Goodbchere,. who had fill I the position of secretary for 36 years, notified the committee of his' intention to retire. During the term' of his office, Mr. Goodbchere saw the club advance in influence and prosperity ltd its present high position and. there is no doubt that such advancement is to a very great extent due to his enthusiasm and ability. The resignation was accepted by the committee with the greatest regret, and members and friends took the_ opportunity at the November meeting'of ex-pressing-in a tangible manner their appreciation of Mr., Goodbehcre’s services. To .fill the vacated position the committee appointed Mr. B. G. Goodbehere who had for some years assisted with the secretarial work. . ■; : ;i , Mr. Perrott, a valuable steward and member of your committee for . over .15 years, found it necessary for health reasons to resign during the year. It was with regret that the resignation of such a useful and capable committeeman was accepted. It is with very deep regret that we have to record -the death during the past .year of the following members— Messrs. J. A. Bailey, T. Shannon, H. Eedmayne, and W. H. Brewster. The president, vice-president, honorary treasurer and four committemen — Messrs. E. Burrell, H. S. Cornfoot, E/ J. Harper, and E. A. Twigg—-retire-In accordance with the rules, and aro agqm eligible for the positions. Owing' to the resignation of Mr. Perrett there will be an extraordinary vacancy to Ae filled at the annual meeting.
For the five vacancies on the committee, the following gentlemen have been nominated: Messrs. E. Burrell, H. S. Cornfoot, W.-G. Pry, R. J.-Harper, T. O’Neill, and E. A. Twigg.
