Big fields have paid up, with the result that instead ot seven races there will be nine, two events being, run in. divisions. Tight Tor Honours.

O ..The final battle for tlio season’s riding, honours' will be fught out to-day and Saturday at Gisbcrno between 1. Green and E. Eeed, who accompanied We. J. Mackic left on the trip north /or the East Coast fixture yesterday morning. Green holds a two-point advantage over his elder rival, and the results.of tho two days’ racing will be keenly followed. At the meeting Green will pilot Addlepate, Dave and Abisogne ,and possibly Eapiata, while Kccd will bo on Fee Simple, _ Wanderlust, Dreamy and Dishonoured. Green’s New Home. . T Green has definitely accepted a retainer from Mr. E, L. Eiddiford, and will do his first riding for tho stable at -the Grand National meeting. One of'his mounts will-be Eoyal Damon in the Winter Cup. Mangani Given Away. Mangani, who previously raced, in the interests of Mr. A. H. Thompson, of Gbrdontbn, has been given away, and Messrs Wood and Bradney will, it is understood, be the new owners of the Day Comet jumper; says “Martian.” Sister to Hoariri.' . ; Some time ago tho Ellerslie ’ewner‘trainer H. Kama, commenced on a preparation a rising two-year-old filly by Antagonist from Country 1 Picnic, hence k full-sister to Hoariri and Tancriri, two-other members of Kama’s team. The filly, however, recently developed soreness, with the result that she has been put aside for the time being. King Du to Eetire. Few who saw King Lu battle 1 out hisi races at r Trcntham realised that he is a father, even if only a five-year-old. Moreover, in a year’s time his son will ho old enough to do battle himself on the turf. In 1926 King Lu was mated with the. Penury—Tuncwha marc Allwin, who goes back to the Cadogan— Siesta marc Dreamland. Siesta being by 'Traducer. The juvenile has been named King Win, and according to the Stud Book he comes after his dam had had a rest of a year. Tho turf career of the bay colt by King Lu from Allwin will- have many interested observers. Ho is owned and was bred by Mr. E. B. "Hines, who races and trains King Lu. Next season King Lu will be at the stud." . Pink Bose Will Do Better.

The former North. Island gelding Pink Eoso was interfered with in the running of the Hunters ’ Plato Handicap at Washdyke on Saaturday and he put up a very creditable performance under his big impost of 12.3, to beat all but the winner, Prompter. The Solferhio gelding has been handicapped with 10.9 in the Kennels Hurdle Handicap, which will come up for decision at the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting,, and as he will bo a much-improved hors'd then, he should show to advantage again. , Guide to The Cup.

Ah. interesting race to come up for decision, .at the Christchurch Hunt meeting is the Brabazon Handicap, which is often referred tq as the Winter Cup preliminary and usually provides a line on the Winter Cup. It is worthy of note that a placed performer in the Brabazon more often than not makes a determined bid for honours in tlie Cup. To quote last year’s race as an instance: Solferite finished third in the Brabazon Handicap, subsequently scoring attractively in the Winter Cup and incidentally returning a fine price. He is also nicely weighted in the same event on this occasion. Thus it may prove worth while tQ remember the placed horses in the Brabazon on August 4. Double' Engagements.

Beau Cavalier, Pouri and Maunga ilaim engagements in the two big jumping events at Eiecarton. It has to be remembered that no < horse has yet

won the Grand National Steeplechase and the Grand National Hurdle Eace at the same meeting. However, the same horse has won the events in different years. Dummy annexed the hurdle race in 1893, and the steeplechase in 1898, while Haydn won the hurdles in 1901 and the steeplechase in 1902. ,/ ' ; • Has Wintered WelL Episode, the champion two-year-old of the season, is Said to have wintered well, and is to be given her first race ar. a three-year-old in the Wanganui Guineas, which her owner-breed er, Mr. G. M. Currie, has won upon the last couple of occasions that the' event has been competed for. Lysander scoring for him in last season and Damaris secured the stake for him last September. First Arrivals. Maunga and Erin-go-Bragh were the first of the visiting horses ,to arrive at Eiccarton. The former was taken down after .the Wellington Meeting by the well-known trainer, J. Griffith, and the West Coast horse was in charge of E. Orange. Ranui Looks Well. Eanui is reported to have looked very healthy and well when he contested the Teschemaker Hunt Cup Steeplechase at Washdyke on Saturday, .but his winning performance was only moderate. Still, he is capable of improvement. He is engaged in the Lawford Steeplechase, of two miles, at the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting, and ho should give a good ’account of himself in that event /especially as the distance will suit him admirably. On -Eiccarton Tracks. .

Among interesting gallops _ done at Kiccarton on Tuesday morning were the following": 1 _ , Noteworthy, who has not raced for some time, showed all his former speed in an attractive five-furlong sprint. The two-year-old’s performance was perhaps the most inspiring, of the morning,: and ho should be a very fit horse when he takes. Ms .place in fields at the coming Grand National meeting 1 . The -Paper Money gelding. bas raced only‘five times’; to '.‘date, but; his form was good, and track work at least Suggsats tMt he is going to develop into Z 'very speedy three-year old. - i Paper Boy, a, stable-mate of Noteworthy, was. also sprinted over five furlongs, in very smart time. Ho showed remarkable ■ speed in. the' early stages, biit slowed down' oyer the last fur--long. 'Limerick, .assisted by Eoscrea, recorded 38'2-sSec for his three-furlong spurt. Both horses moved freely,; and they were on terms passing the post., 1 Eapier and "Gold Mine sprinted, over three furlongs in 40 2-ssec, but they were not, asked to do their best. Gold Mint was suffering from :n--cold at the Wellington meeting, but he is doing well again,- and strode out nicely. Crossbow and* Deri Jose were companions in a gallop over sis furlongs, covered in Imiii 17sec. Xu early stages Crossbow held the lead, but once in the straight Don Jose gathered up, his mate in a few strides, and went on j to win very -comfortably by four lengths. Don Jose, who is in the Winter Cup on tho minimum, has rounded up well lately, and with a race in the Brahazon Handicap at the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting, he should bo nearly at his best at the Grand National fixture.. • Tarletou showed surprising speed in a trial with tho Winter Cup candidate Nincompoop, in their seven-furlong gallop. The old fellow, who was tubed last week, led all the way, and passing the post ho was galloping • with ease, four lengths in advance of his companion, Apparently Tarlpton’s . operation has improved him considerably, and it will be interesting to see how he shapes among the flat racers in the Jumpers’ Flat, on the opening day of the C.J.O.’s Grand National carnival. First Sight strode out pleasingly over seven furlongs, in Imin 33Sec. The Gay Lad gelding looks very well, and ■with an outing in the Brabazon Handicap, he should, strip fit for his Winter Cup engagement. Tuahine moved freely during her live-furlong sprint, in Imiu 4 l-ssec. She began slowly, but finished on well.-

Eapier’s Nomination. Rapier has been afforded one nomination for the Grand National meeting, in the Selwyn Handicap, the concluding event of the three days’ programme. • s Rides Black M S. Henderson will ride Black Mint in the Winter Cup.Ohelone Pleases. Chelone, Awapuni’s Winter Cup candidate, with Metcalf up, strode over six furlongs, very pleasingly at Awapuni on Tuesday morning. The Leighton gelding is in excellent fettle, and should prove one of the most difficult to dispose of among the 7.0 division, provided the draw is .not too heavily against Mm. Novar For Hurdles: Novar, -who has been rather a disappoiutment on the flat this season, his one victory being in the President’s Handicap on the second day at the Manawatu summer • fixture in which he scrambled home from Euphonium and Damaris,’is to be'tried at the hurdling game. The black Sarto gelding has been put over the sticks since coming in from his spell, and has been jumpinn- cleanly, giving promise that he may be a better stake earner the coming season at the game than he has proved this season. Novar has already made his debut over the sticks, for he contested the Hack Hurdles at Ash-

hurst at the 1925 fixture of the club, won by Axle, where ridden by A. McDonald he ran unplaced. Shortly afterwards he broke his maiden flat, status in the Eongotea Welter af Foil ding, bedting Mountain Top and Ben Nevis. Also Skyrider. Another of J. Coyle's team, to-be put over the fences is the disappointing Skyrider, who did not altogether please in an effort on Tuesday with March On, Birkio and Eangi Sarto. From Fordell. Kilia ; (Kilbroney—Eibblc), owned by a son of Mr. T. A. Duncan, and previously trained at Fordell by F. Tilley, has recently joined L. .Knapp’s stables. A couple of seasons ago as a four-year-old Kilia was a fair sort in hack class, but, the next season could mot get into the xdaecs. Slow- Preparation. Bullford is not . being hastened in his work. Trainer E. Watson is giving plenty of patience to the preparation , of the Strowan—Dreadnought—Links marc gelding. The aged fellow is keeping sound and may yet sport silk again.
