TERRACE END SCHOOL BAZAAR

RESULT EXCEEDS ANTICIPATIONS What organisation and enthusiasm can accomplish was strikingly demonstrated yesterday afternoon when the bazaar held in aid of the Terraco End School funds resulted in the raising of £l6O, which with the Government subsidy will give the committee, £o2o to spend on improving the grounds—a truly splendid effort. * Mr. W. B. Cameron, chairman of the Terraco End School Committee, in extending a welcome to the Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Graham) said that no function would be complete without his Worship. Mr Graham was over ready to help in every way he possibly could. He was indeed the .children’s friend. On behalf of, the school committee, Mr. Cameron wished to thank Mr. A. W. Thompson (the headmaster) and the school staff, for allowing the committee to hold the bazaar at the school. The committee had the loyal support of the teachers and staff. He desired to thank the ladies’ committee and all their helpers, the ’ deepest thanks were ■due to the parents and householders, for the magnificent display of goods on the stalls, and for the good response of the children who had been working for weeks past, as the many different items on the stalls would show. The committee . desired to raise 1 £IOO for. the beautifying of the school grounds. In declaring the bazaar open, Mr. Graham said that it gave him a grfeat deal of pleasure to see so many parents and householders present, he warmly congratulated all who were connected with the bazaar, it plainly showed close co-operation, not only between parents and chlMrenj but by the corn-’ mitteo and helpers. It was very gratifying to sec the enthusiasm of the children. “However,” said His Worship, “Nobody wants to listen to speeches to-day, This is a time when speech is silvern and silence would be golden. The’ stallholders want to get to work and get the ready cash that I can see is in the room.” ’

Mr. Graham asked the girls and boys to always boar, in mind the. great' sacrifices that parents and school teachers made on their behalf. The greatest asset in life was a sound education, and it was by the efforts of their parents and .teachers, that they wore to fit themselves to become a credit as future citizens, and to prove themselves both to the teachers and their parents.
