NO PRIMA FACIE CASE TO WARRANT TRIAL

ALLEGED SHEEP STEALING. Per Press Association. CHEISTCSimCH, Last Night. Frederick Arthur Hayward Ponfold, was charged at Amberley to-day with having stolen nineteen sheep valued at £26 12/-. It was alleged that the sheep were taken from a travelling mob which had come from Nelson and which were held for the night in a paddock near Ponfold’s farm. Evidence was wholly circumstantial and after hearing the case for the prosecution and one witness for the defence, Magistrate Lawry declared that no prima facie case had been made out sufficient to warrant him in committing Penfold for trial. The information was therefore dismissed.
