SCOTS RETURN TO SEE HOME COUNTRY
LINER CHARTERED TO CONVEY PARTY PRO TO SCOTLAND. MELBOURNE. Six years ago a suggestion was made at a Scottish gathering in Melbourne that a party of Scottish Australians should visit the land of their fathers and broadcast the possibilities of Australia. The proposal grew slowly to fruition and. now 637 Ausralian Scots have sailed for their native land on the big Commonwealth passenger steamer Hobson’s Bay. This delegation will paint Australia exactly as it is, exaggerating nothing and hiding nothing. All its members arc going entirely at their own expense, and they are all people who have been through the mill, and have won their way from very small beginnings to comparative wealth. It is hoped that, as a result of their voyage, Scotland will play a big part in providing a portion of tho population that Australia still needs. Of the 037 members of tho delegation 240 are from Victoria, 192 from Now South Wales, 63 from South Australia, 109 from Queensland, 9 from Tasmania and 24 from Western Australia. In addition to migration they will look closely into marketing matters, and do what they can to further Australian trade in Britain. After fulfilling their engagements in England and Scotland,- they will divide up, and return individually to Australia. Many have decided to call in on the United States and Canada on the way home.
