TECHNICAL SCHOOL TEAMS AT PLAY

EASY WIN FOR NAPIER. Defeat at the hands of the Napier Technical School first fifteen was suffered by Palmerston North Technical School first fifteen,by 37 points to three in a match played at Napier on Friday afternoon. The -game in the first half was fairly even, but in the second spell owing to the home team’s superior weight, Palmerston North could not reproduce their form of the initial stages and consequently the game lapsed inta a procession of tries on the part of Napier. Play from the start was devoid of incident, but two early movements by the visitors' backs, who were throwing the ball about in fine style, looked dangerous for Napier. Infringements, however, saved the situation. Napier then took a hand in matters, and their forwards took play from half way to the twenty-five, where Hamilton and Hayes finished off the movement at the goal line, the latter player going over near the posts. Griffiths’ kick was not a success. Napier 3, Palmerston Norf. nil.

From loose forward play the ball came out to Hewitt, who transferred to Wehipcihana, who scored, but failed to add the major points—Napier 3. Palmerston North 3. Napier jagain attacked and shortly afterwards a high kick was followed up by Grouden who just beat, Webster for it, and went over under the posts, giving Nbrthey an easy chance to convert —Napier 8, Palmerston North 3. In a few minutes Griffiths scoring and converting increased Napier’s lead to 13 —3. Half-time soundcd immediately afterwards. In the second spell the Hawke’s Bay team had much the better of things. The score rapidly mounted until the game ultimately finished up with the score 37 to three. Tries in the second half wore obtained by Stewart (2), Blair, Griffiths, Tareha, and Fleming, while three of these were converted by Northey, Griffiths, and Griffen. Duripg the second spell the Palmerston North half-back, Flowers, had to leave the field with a broken rib. Mr. J. Miller was in charge of the game. BASKETBALL. Playing at Napier orf Friday the Palmerston North Technical College basketball team -were beaten by Napier Technical by two goals to three. HOCKEY. Playing at Napier on Friday afternoon, the Palmerston North Technical College team beat Napier Technical College by eight goals to two.
