Weddings

ELLMERS—GHNN. St. Mark’s Church. (Mangatainoka) was the scene of a pretty and popular wedding on Wednesday, July 11th, when Miss Jessie Ellen. Gunn, was lllarricd to Mr. Cecil John Ellmcrs, of Eohinui. The bride presented a charming picture as she entered the church on the arm. of her father. Her gown was of ivory satin and georgette, (beautifully hand-worked) and a handsome tulle veil and. silver shoes and stockings completed a dainty toilette. Attending her as chief bridesmaid, was her sister, Miss Norah Gunn, attired in palest lavender, and Miss Phyllis Ellmers of Palmerston North (sister of the bridegroom) whoso dfess was of pale apple-green. Both maids wore coronets of silver leaves, and with dainty bouquets to tone with their dresses, made a picturesque pair. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Clive Ellmcrs as best man, and Mr. Bernie Bone as groomsm'an. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Mangatainoka Library Hall, Mrs. Gunn receiving her gacsts in a tailored costume of nigger brown, Vith fawn velour hat, while Mrs Ellmors (mother of the bridegroom wore a handsome navy coat and hat to match. When the bride and bridegroom left on their honeymoon, the former was wearing a smart navy and beige frock with coat and hat to match. A Sad Ending. Two car loads set out to follow the bridal car to Woodvillc, where the happy couple, were to entrain for Napicr.r In the first one, driven by , Mr. Withers of Featherston (brother-in-law of the bride) were Mr. Gunn (father), Mrs. Withers (sister),, Mrs. Run,die (grandmother) and Mrs. Ross and Miss Ross of Mastcrton. When nonring the Ngawapurua Bridge a tyro punctured and. the car skidded in loose mptal causing it to capsize with grave; injuries to the occupants. Mr. Gunn Mrs. Withers, and Mrs. Rundle,' and Mrs. Ross ■were most badly hurt, Mr. Gunn expiring soon after his arrival at the Pahiatua hospital. The others arc recovering slowly, . The late Mr. Gunn was a highly • respected resident of Mangatainoka, and formerly of Alfredton. The funeral which took place at Mangatainoka on Saturday, July’ 14th, was very' largely attended, many old friends coming from Alfredton and Nireaha. To Mrs Gunn and family wo ertend our heartfelt sympathy in their sad loss of husband and father, the shook being "so much greater in view of the proceeding wedding festivities.

HARVEY—WALTON. Oii Saturday evening at All Saints ’ Church, Clara Mona, eldest daughter, of Mr. and Mrs. G-. B. Walton, was married to Henry -Fcatherston, soil, of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Harvey, of Dunedin. Tho Rev. Canon Fancourt performed the ceremony. The Bride, who entered tho church on the arm of Mr. Lisd, a friend, wore silver lace. Tho veil she wore was that worn by her mother and aunts 33 years ago, and,she carried a shower bouquet of freesias and maiden. hair fern. The bridesmaids were Miss Phyllis Walton, sister of tho bride, and Miss Molly Campbell, a friend. They wore frocks of apricot crepe do chene, with bandeau* to match, and carried bouquets of spring flowers and maiden hair fern. Mr Sam acted as best nian and Mr Tolly Bosworth as groomsman. ' Afterwards a reception was held at the Broadway Lounge? some 70 guests being present, Mrs. G. Walton receiving guests in a frock of beige repp with hat to match and, carrying a bouquet of spring flowers and maiden hair fern. >

Mr and Mrs. Harvey left later for Napier while the guests were entertained at a dance.
