Y.W.C.A. MEETING, HELD IN BUDAPEST

FIRST INTERNATIONAL . CONFERENCE SINCE 1914. 350 DELEGATES WELCOMED BY MAYOR. BUDAPEST, June. 11. A world conference of the Young Women’s Christian Association was opened here with an official reception by Dr. Eugfenc Sipoccz, mayor of Budapest, who welcomed 350 delegates in' the name of the city. Representatives of the Ministry of Education and Countess Sulkovsky, president of the .Hungarian Young Women’s Christian Association, also spoke. l Lady Parmoor, the 'retiring president, replying, expiv sed her apreciation and said that this was the first world conference since that hold in Stockholm in 1914. The delegates include 35 from tho United States, 19 from Britain, 31 from Germany, and many from other lands. The afternoon conference received greeting from overseas organisations, giving an impressive idea ,of the importance ■of the gathering. [ The. first business meeting was presided over by Lady Parmoor, who reported on the' work done lm-rofient years, and emphasised tho advances' made in women’s status, especially politically as shown in tho extension of the franchise to women in England, but this, she added, was only ono example. i * A discussion on “Aims and Methods” was opened .by Fraulein Gretc Schnomann for Germany and Miss Margaret Burton, New ilork, for the - United States. Tho speeches described tho Young Women’s Christian Association, difficulties, but were, enthusiastic over the progress already ' made,- and indicated that many social and. industrial problems and the question of the equality of the sexes await- solution.
