' • WELLINGTON, July 20. •; An extension of the activities of the State Fire Insurance Office-is provided ‘for in the State Fire Insurance Amendment Bill read a first time in the House of Representatives, to-day. : The Bill seeks to give the office power to accept risks against loss or damage by earthquake of insurable property situated’ in New Zealand, and also to aco.ep't any other class of insurance business’ commonly accepted in New Zealand’ or elsewhere by fire insurance companies. ' In this r extended lousiness tho office is to have authority to reinsure in the same way as it may reinsure against its'fire risks. V When the Bill was introduced and fore its contents, were known, Hr J. A. Lee (Auckland East) expressed tho hope .that it would not seek to curtail the business of the officc.Which ho held tip’’as-air outstanding example of the value to the people of State enterprise.
