In fine cold weather in the presence of 38,000, Australia defeated England in the third and final League Test by 21 points to 14. \ The teams were — Australia: Hardy, Pierce, Gorman, Craig, Wearing, Weissell,- Busch, Steinohrt, Justice, Trowecke, Dempsey, Armbruster, Kingston. England: Sullivan, Ellaby, Oliver, Askin, Gwynne, Rees, Pairclough, Bowman, Bcntham, Burgess, Eildes, Sloman, Horton. Pine weather made a great difference to the local team, and on the day’s game the Englishmen were outplayed. The match was fast and open, and consisted more of individual brilliancy on the part of tho Australians than cohesive team work. • England made a stubborn fight, but tho, brilliancy of the local players, who were , almost always attacking, made the visitors’ display appear mediocre. It was the - best effort tho Australian team has made for some years. The game in tho first 4ialf was fairly evenly contested, the scores being at half time, Australian 9, England 7. After this, Australian took command and ended in winning comfortably. Wearing was especially brilliant, scoring two tries and kicking two goals. Receipts from the tour, which is now ended, total £32,500. The team sails for New Zealand on Thursday, where it will play nine matches.
