WINTER LABOUR-SAVING HINTS

To save much labour in the task of whitening the doorstep, in, winter time, mix to a smooth paste powdered whiting and skim-milk. Brush this thickly and smoothly over the steps. It dries hard like enamel and can quickly be wiped clean with-a'wet cloth. It saves much scrubbing.. If a supply, of the following cleaner for linoleum is made and kept well corked it will last through the winter. Shred i pound. of soap, and boil- it slowly in one quart of water. Melt J pound of glue. This may be done by putting tho glue into a jar and standing this in a saucepan' of boiling water until dissolved. ' Glue should never be. melted or boiled directly in water. Add the melted glue to the soapsuds and then add 3-pint of paraffin. Mix all tho ingredients together and leave the mixture until cold, when it may be applied to the linoleum by means of a flannel dipped in warm water... Once a fortnight is quite often enough to use it, and it will clean, polish and preserve the linoleum.- ■ ; - -

When cleaning windows in winter, after rubbing -them .down -with a damp chamois leather; rub them oyer with a wad,of lint, on which, some glycerine has been poured; then polish them with a dry chamoise leather. After such treatment the windows will not get dulled so quickly by fog or smoke..
