EUCHRE AND DANCE. From Our Own Correspondent. As usual there was a very largo attendance at the hall on Saturday evening for the euchre party and dance. These functions have proved a most popular form of entertainment throughout the winter, and arc keenly looked forward to by young and. old alike. Frizes were awarded on this occasion to those having gained most points on the live previous nights, and were Won by Mrs. E. Christian and Mr. Guy, the former being presented with a charming little bedroom clock, generously donatod by Mr R. Coekburn, while the latter reccived.,.a very useful pocket wallet. Points consolations were carried oil by Mrs. McFarlane and Mi G. Marshall. First prizes for the evening, a salad set and an electric torch, were won by Mrs. Gardner and Mr Ken Green respectively, and consolations by Mrs. T. Marshall and, Mr D. Dais, of Waituna. Supper over, Mr and Mrs. Gardner, without whom wo would be lost indeed, repaired to the stage with violin jand piano, enticed all present on to the dancing floor, where till midnight a most enjoyable time was spent. Excellent extras /were contributed by Mr L. Anderson, of Halcombo, and Mr R. Tims of Taihape. Mr Lcn Cockburn carried out the duties of M.C. in his us.uaL kindly and courteous manner. It was a pleasure to. have bright little Margaret Gardner with us again and wo wfiro delighted to see her looking so well after her recent operation. Hockey. A furious game was played on Saturday at Victoria Park, Feilding, between Stanway and Carnarvon, in,which the latter proved the victors by'l'to nil. This was the first game of the 'third round, and our boys did remarkably well against a team recognised as one of the most formidable in the district. It was, in fact, the best game they have played this season. Mr F. Craine (emergency) who took the ■place of S. Marshall in especial, cd a sterling game as he did on the one other occasion ho was called upon to play this season. Carnarvon’s : goal was scored by F. Florence. 'Messrs. J. Herdman and F. Moore refereed. Last Friday the primers of the local school were given a holidal to enable them to visit the dental clinic, Feilding. ■, Parents speak in the highest terras 'of praise of the kindly treatment the children received at , the hands of Nurse Hughes who is in charge of the establishment, Stanway District Ball. What with euchre parties, concerts, nnd dances, Sfanway is having a right royal timo this winter.Wo arc fortunate in having at present a most energitic and enterprising set of young people in our midst, and they have certainly been stirring the district up of late. At a meeting held in the hall last Thursday evening to discuss the advisability of holding a district ball it was decided to hold one on August 9th. and preparations arc now being made to that effect.
