' ■ ■ , .This question was threshed out by the Palmerston North High School Board of .Governors last 1 night when the Director, of the Technical School (Mr. G. G. Hane asked for a ruling Mr. W. F. Durward entered a prompt objection to such a practice , No school should ■bo used for exploiting the pupils, ho said. Members drew attention to the possibility of the entertainments being educational and that often part of the proceeds were given towards some school -object. Mr. Durward said he objected to the practice at any time., The principle was wrong. Mr. W. L. Fitzherbert asked what difference there was in the boys paying for an entertainment at a school and at a theatre. Mr. Durward: The principle is just the same as selling cigarettes in the school. Mr. W. T. Penny: What if the entertainment is one of advantage to the pupils. Mr. Durward: I don’t care if it is. It is wrong so long as the pupils have to pay. The Board decided not to allow after school performances. Messrs W. R. Birnie, W. F. Durward, and G. G.
