MANAWATU HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

The fortnightly meeting of the Manawatu Hockey Association was held last evening at the Times office when the following members were present: Messrs C. Aitchison (chairman), E. Vasey, M. Levy, W. Broughton, W, Scott, Weston-Smith, G. Wilkinson, (1. B. Gcrrand, F. Amos, A. J. Hunt, O. L. Turnbull, D. Temple and J. H. McDowell (secretary). An apology for absence wets received from Mr. C. W. Duckworth. Before commencing the business of the evening, the chairman welcomed Mr Temple, the newly-appointed delegate for Technical School. Correspondence. From Tecumcal Scaool registering two players. —Approved. From Rotorua wadies’ Hockey Association asking the Manawatu Association to support their application for the Now Zealand tournament to be held at Rotorua this year. —It was decided that this be left in the hands of the Manawatu delegate with a recommendation that ho support the tournament being held in the North Island. From the Technical School appointing Mr Temple as their delegate on the Association. From the Manawatu Whippet Racing Club applying for permission, for use of Sportsground oval for Wednesday June 27th. Permission granted subject to confirmation from the Palmerston North Borough Council. From the selectors, enclosing team to play Otaki. The question of temporary registration granted to two W.E.O.G. players was again fully discussed, and after reading correspondence from that club it was decided that the registration of these two players bo held over until tho next meeting of the Association on Juno 25th. In the meantime W.E.O.G. arc to be asked why they played one of tlie players in the cup fixture on Wednesday Juno 6th, she not being a registered member of the club. A letter was received from the protest committee for the opening of the opening tournament of the season, giving their reasons for the replay between W.E.O.G. and Rongotea. A unanimous vote of confidence in the protest committee was passed The full protest report is to be fc warded to the Manawatu Referees’ Association A Successful Tournament.

The chairman reported on the June 4th tournament, stating that it had been a success from both playing and financial aspects, and congratulated the members who had assisted in making it the unprecedented success it undoubtedly was. Letters had been received from several teams congratulating the Association upon the excellent arrangements, and hoping to bo present at next year’s tournament. On the motion of the chairman a special vote of thanks was extended to Messrs McDowell, Vasey, Turnbull and Wilkinson. The secretary was instructed to send letters of appreciation to all those outside of the executive who rendered assistance at the tournament. It was decided to make a grant of £1 to the caretaker of the Girls’ High School for assistance rendered. An enquiry was received from the Euaauic Association asking if Manawatu would put in a challenge for the ‘Nopera Cup.” ' It was decided that no action be taken at the present moment owing to the heavy programme which the Association w-as contemplating. Mr. Broughton was appointed manager of the team to visit Otaki on Saturday, and reported that all matters in connection with same wore complete. The Eeferoes Association submitted the names of .Messrs Blaekbournc and Amos, to the Otaki Association for their selection of one Manawatu referee. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be sent to Miss M. Waters, of Wellington for her past services to Manawatu hockey. ■' A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Vasey, ,Gerrand Turnbull, Hunt, McDowell and Aitchison w-as set up to formulate a scheme -of insurance for players, such scheme to be compulsory and an Association charge to clubs. It was decided to grant the sum of one guinea to the Manawatu Eeferecs’ Association. It was unanimously decided that before any attempt be made to send a team to this year’s New Zealand tournament the present liability of the Association as a result of last year’s tournament must be wiped off. It was resolved that each club run a dance for the benefit of the Association, such dances bo given the support of this Association.

The first dance was allocated to W.E.O.G. to bo followed by the Prcmcra and Eosco clubs. In view of the Moascar Cup match on Wednesday June 20th, it was decided that no fixtures be held on that date. The next meeting of the Association is to bo held on Monday June 25th at 7.30 p.m.
