NINETY-THIRD BIRTHDAY

ALMERSTON N. RESIDENT ATTAINS REMARKABLE AGE, Heartiest congratulations will be extended by all Palmerston North to Mrs. M. A. Rawlins, of Brightwater Terrace, who celebrated her 03rd birthday yesterday, and is still halo and hearty. Even in her fmW ■ Bow is possossed of all her faculties; she en* joys wondeirtuiiy ■ • ceedingly active for a woman ot her years. She still resides at her residence in Eiverlca, Brightwater Terrace, in tho company of her daughtor-in-law, Mrs. J. Rawlins, and her grand-daugh-ter, Miss E. M. Rawlins. Mrs. Rawlins has received cables of congratulations from America and Australia, and telegrams from all over New Zealand. She was born at Quebec, Canada, on June 10,1835, of Irish parentage. Owing to the death of her father shortly after her birth, her mother-returned to Iro ; land, where she was brought up and: educated by her grandfather, an officer in tho Imperial Army, Colonel William Pemblate Pigot, of Slovoy Castle. County Wexford, Ireland. Shortly after the death of her guardian, she, with other members of the family, migrated to Australia, where she was married to Mr. Jossc Rawlins, who was well known in musical circles in Ballarat. Later she and her husband and only child, tho late Mr, W. Rawlins, decided to eomo to Now Zealand. They landed in Wellington, and after a short time there they came to Palmerston North, where Mr. Rawlins engaged in business for a number of years, and where she has lived over since. At the inception of Emmanuel Congrcgr.fional Church Mrs Rawlins became of the foundation members, and even to-day takes a very keen interest in all tho affairs of the church’s activities.
