LADIES’ HOCKEY
FIRST ROUND IN WEEK-END TOURNEY ENDS. Saturday’s games brought to a closo the first round of the week-end competitions; which have been, most successful. Championship points are distributed as follow: — West End Old Girls ‘A’: played, 5; won, 4; lost, 0; drew, 1; total, 9. Bunnythorpc; Played, 5; won, 4; lost, 0; drew, 1; total 9. Rongotca;, Played, 5;. won, 3; lost, 2; drew, 0; total, (3. Oroua Downs: Played, 5; -won, 1; lost, 3; drew, 1; total, 3. Tech.: Played, 5; won, 1; lost, S; drew, 1; total, 3. Tokomaru: Played, 5; won, 0; lost 5; drew, 0; total, 0. Throe games were sfit down for Saturday, results at a glance being: Kongotea beat Tokomaru, 7—o; West End Old Girls beat Oroua Downs, 4—o; JBuunythropic beat Tech., 7—o. Bongotea v. Bunnythorpe. Tokomaru started with a good run, Rongotca gaining possession and securing the first goal in a fairly comfortable fashion. Rongotca, continued to hold the advantage though Tokomaru made several good tries, and the score in Rongotca's favour steadily mounted, by half-time they numbered 6 goals to Tokomaru's nil. Play was more even during the second half. Tokomaru, playing in their usual plucky manner, attacked strongly but failed to score. Rongotca again took charge and the match ended in their favour, 7 —o. Mr. Dooley was referee. W.E.O.G. v. Oroua Downs. Play commenced with both teams challenging well, Oroua Downs holding the advantage. West End Old Girls got the ball after a fairly sharp tussle and fast up and down play ensued. Botn teams were fairly evenly matched, West End playing in better combination than their opponents. .‘Several strong runs were checked on the lines, and a good display of passing by West End Old Girls ended in their making the first score. Oroua Downs hero put up, a strong attack but were unsuccessful, and no further score was,'made during the first half.' The resumption of the game brought further triumph to West End, w'ho,. in spite of the good defence 2 tup by the Downs’ team, seemed to have little dilliculting in bringing the score to four points in (heir favour. Mr. Amos was in charge of the whistle. Tho match between Bunnythorpc and Technical .School, played at Bunnytliorpe, ended in a win for Bunnythorpe by 7 goals to nil.
