YOUNG WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION

BOARD MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of tha T.W.O.A. Board was held yesterday afternoon. Mrs. L. A. Abraham pre* siding. Mrs. Gibb was welcomed as a new member on the board of directors. The resignations of Mrs. Mansford and Mrs. Fairbrother were received with regret, though Mrs. Fairbrother will retain her position on the girls'* department committee. It was stated that the world conference of the Y.W.C.A. had commenced at Budapest on Thursday, this conference being the first of its kind to bd held since 1914. During the period that had elapsed since then the world association membership had more than doubled itself, and the world staff had. increased from two to eight specialists. All nationalities were represented at the conference, including the two New, Zealand delegates, Mias E. E. Law* and Miss M. McLean, of Wellington. An invitation had been received front the Dunedin Association to be present at their jubilee week celebrations, July 15-21. Unfortunately no Palmerston’ North members will be able to go. A letter was read regarding delegates to the Honolulu Women’s Conference, where Miss M. Cole, New Plymouth will represent the New Zealand association. The Girl Cltlseas. Reports were made of the community gathering, tramps talen during the school to Tiritca, a song contest and a farewell party given to Miss A. Johansen who has gone to Taranaki to teach. The senior club was adding e to its numbers each week, and had entered a basketball team in the association. Hostel Affairs. Permanent boarders numbered 20, and there had been 27 visitors during the month. The hostel matron wished to make known that she had a very large fowlhouse and only six fowls and would bo glad of any additions. General. It was reported that an arts and crafts club for Monday afternoons had been commenced. A jumble sale is to be held on July 16. An effort is to bo made to secure more sustaining members. Miss D. Gavin, representative from India, will visit Palmerston North in July and it was hoped to hold tha annual meeting of the association at the same time.
