From Our Own Correspondent. Ladles’ Hockey Dance. The Pahiatua Ladies' Hockey Club will be bolding their big dance in the Foresters' Hall on Thursday, June 21. A strong committee have the matter in hand, and Wi Duncan's orchestra has been engaged for the function. The floor, decorations, and supper will not be lacking in any shape or form, and everything points to the dance being a huge success. At the club’s last euchre party held in St. Peter’s schoolroom there was quite a good attendance. These even-' ings are proving Very popular,' and no doubt as the season progresses they will become even more so. The ladies' prize and the consolation was won by Mrs. J. Lister and Mrs. P. Walsh respectively, while the successful gentlemen were Mr. O'Brien and Mr. Tataurangi. On Monday night next a big night has been arranged for. The first prize for the ladies will be 251 b. bag of flour and another of equal value for the gents. ;..v Farmers’ Yards. The annual meeting of the Pahiatua Farmers’ Association Ltd. was held oh Tuesday. There was only a moderate attendance present, which factor was mentioned by the chairman, Mr. D, O’Brien . The balance-sheet showed the excellent credit of £312/7/6. The directors report satisfactory progress has been made and that the yards arc in good order. The secretary, Mr, J. G. Brechin, said that the balance-sheet showed the finances to be in a healthy state, and the cash reserves were very considerable. The yards were now second to none in the district, and the policy should bo to- go on improving them. The. retiring directors, Messrs. W. D. Taylor, and F. Moore, were reelected unopposed. ' - 1 Mr. A. Knox moved and Mr. F. Moore seconded that it be a recommendation to the board of directors to look into the question of a new office and tea room site, and to take what action ,they deem necessary.

At Eketahuna on Monday night last about 40 South African veterans met to form a branch of the S.A.V. Assocition, to be called the Bush District South African Veterans Association. The gathering was made more interfrom the fact that many had not met since they disbanded 2S years ago, and until that evening were not aware that each lived in the same district. The re-union was so successful that another is to be held at an early date at Pahiatua, and after that at Woodville and Eketahuna each year. Mr A. McE. Mason was appointed chairman, Mr L. T. Herbert secretary. Committee, Messrs J. Eennctt, J. Boss (Eketahuna), E Y. Brabant, W. T. Kiddell, J. McCormick (Pahiatua), A. J. Arlidga G. W. Wardrop (Woodvillc). Boxing. There is evidently a boxing craze in the Pahiatua district where a very energetic boxing club has recently been started. v , Woodville has now ‘done likewise” whilst Eketahuna is also going to don the gloves. Who can say that champions will not bo forthcoming from the Bush District?

Mr. Earle Wimsett, president of the Manawatu Boxing , Association, has written as follows to the local boxing club secretary:—-“I should like to congratulate you on the splendid exhibition put up by your representatives at the recent boxing contest at Palmerston North. If this is a sample of the. work being done in your district, I think you can go ahead with every confidence, well knowing that success can only follow your efforts. ” . A meeting of the executive is to bo held on, Saturday night next when arrangements will be finalised in connection with the new gymnasium. There is also the question'of the date for the proposed amateur tournament. -Personal. Mr. H. Cowan is on a visit to Auckland. Mr, H. Cotter is an inmate of the Tararua private hospital, Mr. T. C. Cornford, president of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association, has been confined to his room with a severe attack of influenza. The Rev. W. Donnelly of the Methodist Church Bible Class Union, has been in Pahiatua meeting the local members. This took place at the Parsonage on Wednesday evening last. The member for the district, Mr. E. A. Ransom, was in Pahiatua on Thursday on which occasion he attended a general meeting of the Pahiatua Chamber of Commerce. Rev. W. B. Gumming will preach at the Methodist Church on Sunday next, this being the Church Anniversary. The funeral of the late Mr. B. E. Oroad took place in Pahiatua on Thursday afternoon when a largo number of relatives and friends followed the cortege to the Ballance Cemetery. The Rev. G. W. Fenwick officiated at the service.
