From Our Own Correspondent. Football. The following have been selected to represent Shannon Juniors v Miranui on Saturday: Birchall, Thorn, Jude, Eobbie, Gray, Sathcrley, Curran, Coyle,. Lankshoar, Pratt, Warman, Groinbie, Ngatuna, White, ■ Robinson. Emergencies: Jamieson, Hibbel, Bowler, Hook. . School Committee Meeting. On Thursday evening Mr A. S. Hyde, (chairman) presided over the monthly meeting of the, Shannon School Committee. Messrs D. Christian, G. Booker, A., Richards, E. Hausman, A. Coates, F. Goldsmith (secretary) and A. White (headmaster) were in attendance. ; Water Charge... : With reference to the Borough account for water which was contended 'by the committee at' its last meeting, that it should be paid by : the Board, the' assistant-secretary of the Board wrote- explaining the regulations and trusting that the committee would pay the account as early as possible. The account was passed for payment and the chairman was asked to approach the Council for a reduction. ■ : Hew Fence. .’.The Education Board's secretary wrote stating that the Board has authorised the renewal of the fence on the main road, and that the supervisor of buildings will arrange for the carrying out of the work. Regarding the cleaning up of the eastern plot Mr A. Hyde., reported that the work had been satisfactorily carried out. Dental Clinic. With reference to the intention to start a dental clinic in the Horowhcnua area, the Director of ’ Dental Hygiene replied that the central clinic would bo the most satisfactory, but the distance required to be travelled would be considerable if only one was established. The travelling clinic y-as more expensive, and the tiine lost in travelling and packing and unpacking was considerable.

Full particulars of cost of establishment, and the policy of different clinics were forwarded.- It was pointed out that the clinics were intended to start on primer classes only, and to follow them right, through the school, tha' reasons being that the clinic could not commence on the whole school at once, -v Eeports from several schools in reply to a circular letter asking for two delegates to attend a conference in Levin were received. Several replies are still to come to hand.

The president pointed out that the necessary information of how many children one dentist could attend per year was not stated, and owing to the size of the district probably two clinics would bo advisable.

It was ...led to write and ask the Director if sufficient money was provided if it would bo feasible to establish three clinics. Mr Richards spoke strongly in favour of the larger number rather than the one central clinic.

Mr Hyde moved that the secretary be instructed to write to all schools calling a conference in Levin on June 28th., and ask the Director of Dental Hygiene to attend.

- Mr Richards moved that the chairman and secretary be appointed delegates to attend the. conference. Mr Christian seconded both motions, which were carried.

, The visiting committee, Messrs Booker and Ingley reported on their inspection of the school during the past month, and pointed out that if 1 the fence dividing the horse-paddock and the playing ground was brought in 24 feet, it would be brought under observation, and that the open drain by the woolshed should be concreted in. Mr Hyde moved that Messrs. Booker and Eichards be asked to. inspect and report at the next meeting. The headmaster (Mr White) reported that ho had written away for a supply of trees for Arbor Day and suggested July 18th, be fixed. The supply of cocoa will be started on June 11th., and will bo carried on till the end of the winter. The average attendance over the last seven weeks: was 331, with a roll number of 351, It w r as moved and seconded that Arbor Day be held on July 18.
