"ARCHIE”

SPARKLING MUSICAL COMEDY. Ever since the first invasion of New Zealand by Sir Benjamin and Jobs Fuller’s ‘ ‘No, No> Nanette” and “Lady, Bo Good” Company last year, the return visit of this excellent London musical comedy company, headed by Elsie Prince, Jimmy Goddeu and Charlton Morton, has been awaited with interest by theatre-goers. During the coming visit this most popular company will be seen in three of tho latest musical comedy hits of London, and New York —“Archie,” “Sunny” and “Mercenary Maty.” The Palmerston North season will commence at the Opera House on Tuesday next. The sparkling musical comedy “Archie” will be the opening production, which will be staged for one night only, to be followed on Wednesday by “Sunny” and on Thursday “Mercenary Mary.” With “Archie” the audience are kept bubbling with laughter all the time; there is not one dull moment from rise to fall of tho curtain. Elsie Prince has a part which she herself says provides a opportunities. Jimmy Godden plays the title role. “The “silly ass” husband is reserved for Charlton Morton to impersonate, and no part could better portray his brilliant artistry. Nellie Doan, another favourite with New Zealand theatregoers, will be .seen as Lady Violet, a most fascinating but disillusioned young widow. While expressing all the glowing charm, youth, melody and colour of “No, No, Nanette” and “Lady, Bo Good,” “Archie” is in contrast to those phenomenal successes by its distinctive atmosphere in story, setting and score, its suave comedy, cleverly contrived surprise situations, captivating orchestra, brilliantly coloured lighting, and rich, modern frocking. The frocking in particular is a most striking feature of the “Archie” production. The box plans, for the “Archie” season are now open at the Opera House, where tremendous booking is proceeding.
