LIVE-BIRD SHOOTING
1 S.P.O.A. PROTESTS. - Pei Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June. 6. A letter from the Otago branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals appealing for support for Hon. G. M. Thomson’s bill for the suppression of the shooting of live birds from traps came before a meeting of tho Canterbury Society. After a discussion the following motion was carried by four votes to two: “That tho Otago Society bo thanked and the letter be received.” In opposing the suppression of live pigeon shooting, Mr. P. E. Biltclilf said that the sport, ns carried on by tho Christchurch Gun Club, was not cruel. The gun club had invited members of the society to the shoots, and he felt sure that after a visit anyone would be quite satisfied that there -was no cruelty:- No bird lived more than a few seconds if' ■ Miss Williamson said that ’other gun clubs might npt conduct their meetings in such a humane way as the Christchurch Club.
