COOLIDGE REPORTED TO HAVE DECLINED NOMINATION OFFER

‘Will Nol Rim Under And Circumstances’

WHITE HOUSE RETICENT ON MATTER

GTaitod Prnu latoei&tiom —By llMtak Tulograph—Copyright. WASHINGTON, Juno 6.

The “New York Telegram’s” Washington correspondent reports that in a letter to Mr. Butler (chairman of tho Republican. Convention), President Coolidgo has warned the Republican Party that he will not accept nomination for the Presidency in any circumstances. '

The correspondent states that reliable information to this effect was obtained from White House circles today.

It is said that the letter was mailed to Mr. Butler at Kansas City on Monday, but whether the contents will be made public at the Convention before the first ballot, or only in the event Of a swing for President Coolidge, is unknown. His communication is said to have been couched in such forceful terms that oven the extreme "draft Coolidgo” spokesman could not misunderstand or disregard -it. White Hous.e would neither deny nor confirm the reports of President Coolidge ,’s letter renouncing nomination.

For months past there has been a doubt as to whether President Coolidge would consent to accept nomination for a third Presidential term in viovy of the somewhat enigmatical announcement, "I do not choose to be a candidate for President in 1928,” contained on typewritten slips handed to pressmen at Eapid City on 2nd August last.
