THE PIG INDUSTRY
MANAWATU BRANCH MAKES GOOD PROGRESS. There were present at yesterday’s meeting of the executive of the Mana-watu-Oroua branch of the Pig Breeder's Association, Messrs. J, A. Russell (chairman), M. Richardson, T. Jf, Shepherd, H. E. Fieldhouse, W. P. Bickers, H. Liggins, H. E. Thurston, and E. P. Neilson (secretary). An apology was received from Mr. J. McFarland. Members reported favourable reception - of the Massey College pig breeding scheme by farmers of the district. The chairman intimated that so far 150 sows would bo available. In discussing the matter of weighing and general opinion was that the College authorities should do that and the chairman was instructed to interview Professor Riddct on the question. Mr. K. Glcndinning was elected auditor. A general invitation is extended to farmers to attend an address on "The Bacon Pig, " by Mr. Hausniann, of Feilding, to be delivered during Winter Show week.. Time and, date of tha lecture will be advertised later. The secretary reported 22 now members which brought- the total to 109;-' Members reported upon tho use of pig meal supplied through tho branch and expressed the opinion that it was a most valuable adjunct to skim milk and whey. Pigs fed upon the meal were doing remarkably well.
