THE COMING HAWKE CUP MATCH. ;i ‘ rr-V" : A’ meeting of the Manawatu Cricket Council was held last evening when there were present: Messrs A, M. Ongley (in the chair), W. P. Anderson, Von Sturmer, Huntingdon. N. Gallichan, G. Kells and R. E. K. Black (hon. secretary). Hawke Cup Match, Marlborough wrote accepting March 16 as the date for the Hawke Cup match, and asking that accommodaion for twelve players bo arranged. It was decided that the match bo played on March 16 and .17. The hours of play were fixed as follows: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; 4.1 K p.m. to 6 p.m. Afternoon tea is to be provided. It Yvas resolved that the charge for admission be Is for adults to both grounds and stand, children free. Messrs W. P. Anderson and G. Greer were appointed umpires for the match. The senior competition games only ore to be suspended, as both the junior, and third grade matches have reached such an interesting stage. Mr. Ford Carlisle, suggested that a junior rep. match be played against Feilding.—lt was decided to let the matter stand over pending the result of the Hawke Cup match. The Feilding Association asked that the annual match with Manawatu.be played at Feilding and suggested cither March 24 or 31 as suitable dates. —It w-as decided that this match be held over pending the result of the Hawke Cup challenge. The Southern Hawke’s Bay Association challenged for the Hawke Cup on March 9 and 10.—As Marlborough have the prior claim, it was decided it would be impossible to arrange a date with Southern Hawke’s Bay this season.
The New Zealand Cricket Council asked that the winners of the Hawke Cup match play Hawke’s Bay as early as possible.—The chairman stated he had met the Hawke's Bay selector recently and had told him It would be impossible to play that Association before March 31st owing to the difficulty of the players obtaining the necessary time off from their work. Owing to the reversion to standard time senior matches will now close at 6 p.m. High School were granted permission to play Wanganui Technical School on next Tuesday and Wednesday (March 13 and 14) and were granted the use of the Sportsground. The Monday evening after the Hawke Cup match (March 19th) was fixed as the date of the next meeting.
