March 31—'Whangarei R.C. March 31—-Hororata R.C. April 18, 19—Manawatu E.C. MANAWATU TROTS TO-DAY. THE FIELDS UNDER REVIEW. I'he Manawatu Trotting Club’s annual meeting will be held on the Ashhurst racecourse to-day, and with the good fields carded, which generally are of a better class than previously owing to the tightening of the limits, interesting contest are sure to result. The first race is down to start at 11.43. A special train will leave Palmerston North at 10.30 a.m. arriving at the course at 11 a.m. The return train will leave for Palmerston North at 5.45 p.m. The programme to be presented is as under: LADIES’ BRACELET, 100 so vs.; class 3.45; one mile and a-half. ' Logan Star scr Great Delight ser Franzgana ser Indicator ser Tawa King ser Van/Mae scr Hardy Jack scr ydsbhd The Abbey scr Our Nancy 36 Native Hero scr Audubon Lorraine scr Patch 36 Nancy Bell scr Ce Advanceur 60 Zo M'Kinney scr A green lot are carded to contest the Ladies’ Bracelet, several of which have not had a race this season, scratch horses are handicapped at an extreme limit Zo McKinney appeals most of the front liners. She was a smarter last year in the race, but has not been racing this season. On breeding Native Hero should have the makings of a good sort, but he is more or less of an unknown quantity. He has been unplaced in his two starts since the Now Tear. Indicator has been, off the scene some time, while Van Mac had a race at Hawke’s Bay. Audubon °atch on tbo 36yds mark bas also been ff tbo scene, but is always likely. Ce dvanecur, the back marker, bas not

been racing lately, and may find the lot in front difficult'to get through on tbo course. Audubon Patch, Zo McKinney and Native Hero should make a good race of it. LINTON HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; one mile and a half. May Eeta scr ydsbhd La Campione scr Ben Bingen 72 Eangitira scr Black Palm 72 Haere Tui Bells ' 84 Grattan scr Real Todd 84 Tamahana scr Miss Leda 156 A better class field will seek the honours in the Linton Handicap. The winner may come from the front liners of whom May Eeta (who was third in the Summer Handicap at the S. Warrarapa meeting on December 26 to Trampcrisp and Repute) and Haere Grattan may prove the best. Ben Bingen, 72yds back, won tbo Stewards 12 miles) at the South Wairarapa meeting on December 27th beating Repute and Trampcrisp. Ho was third to the latter on the first day. Black Palm has not been in tbe places lately. The same applies to Miss Leda, who won at the Manawatu meeting two years ago paying a substantial price. Real Todd has been knocking with two seconds in bis last two efforts. The winner may come from May Eeta, Haere Grattan and Ben Bingen. STEWARDS’ HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; two miles. Welcome Richmond Pearl ser Lass scr Hardy Jack scr ydsbhd The Abbey scr Mary Brown 12 Nancy Bell scr Trumpeter 30 Audubon Fliton 36 Patch scr Derby Lynn 48 Van Mac scr Sailor Boy 48 Crusader 48 A mediocre field will face the starter in the Stewards’ Handicap, the first two-miler on the programme. Trumpeter won the Clive Handicap at Hawke’s Bay on January 28, but this was only a mile and a-half event. Fliton was third at the same meeting to Trumpeter and Halgana ,and in a later race ran a head behind Halgana into second place. Derby Lynn was favourite in the latter race (which was only over a mile and a-quartcr), and it is doubtful how the three-year-old filly wlli shape at two miles. It is worth noting she has the same owner and trainer as the champions Padlock and Loch Moigh. Sailor Boy won the Novice Handicap (14 miles) at Hawke’s Bay after three times unplaced. Crusader has lately been off tbo scene, but bas earned bis penalty. On the limit mark The Abbey appeals most. It is a difficult field to sum up

but Trumpeter, Derby Lynn and The Abbey may go best. MANAWATU CUP, of 265 sovs.; two ' miles. Lottie Shadowland 36 Advance scr Mate o’ Mine 48 Lady ydsbhd Vesuvius 48 Barrington 12 Uramic 48 Wakefield 12 Tamerlane rhc. 60 High Sea 12 Caprice 84 Tui Wildwood 36 The Cup field is of tip-top class, including horses from North and South. From Eeofton Vic Albon has brought up Vesuvius. The Matchlight four-year-old bas a second to his credit in his last three starts. Auckland is represented by Tamerlane, who captured a double at Hamilton last Saturday. He has been rchandicappcd 36yds as a result of these wins. Shadowland and Mate o’ Mine arc visitors from Addington. Mate o’ Mine won the Middleton Handicap at the recent Canterbury Park meeting in 4.53 4-5, but°Shadowland has been lately out of the places. Uramie is another likely sort, who claimed a second at the Waikato Summer meeting, being beaten by Andover. This was only a mile and a-half race, but Uramic’s time was 3.24. Caprice had a win very early in the season, but has not been racing much since. Some good sorts are on the 12yd,mark. Lady Barrington won the Martinborough Handicap at the S. Wairarapa meeting, and more recently the Hawke’s Bay Cup. Wakefield was in the places at Wairarapa, while High Sea won the Visitors’ Handicap at the Waikato Summer meeting beating Huon Gratton. Ho was second at an earlier start. Tui Wildwood bas had two wins in succession, the Wairarapa Cup and the Mangaparl Handicap on the second day. Lady Barrington, Tui Wildwood and Tamerlane appear the best, with High Sea, Uramic and Mato o’ Mine all possibilities, LONGBURN HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; one mile and a-half. Our Nancy scr Hilltop 12 Abrudbanya ser Lady Zoo 12 Lorraine scr Vallamont 24 Zo M'Kinney scr Sailor Boy 36 Indicator scr Cora Tacks 60 yds bbd Abundance 96 Co Advanceur 12

t Hilltop may have improved suffiici- • cntly to be the most dangerous in the t Longhorn Handicap. She was second 3 to Sailor Boy in tb.o Novice at Hawke’s - Boy and in a later race second to Host- ) css. Sailor Boy has to give her a t couple of second to-day. Abundance ) won the mile event at the recent Nel- • son meeting, earlier being third in a ' mile and a-quarter. The distance to- ! day may prove too far. Vallamont was ' in the places at the Wairarapa and i Hawke’s Bay meetings and should bo ■ ready for major honours. The ro--1 mainder of the field have not been racing much this season, though Our Nancy on the limit mark has a recent second to her credit. Lady Zoo was a surprise winner at the meeting last year, but has no late form to recommend her. Hilltop, Vallamont and Cc Advanceur should run as well as most. POH ANGINA HANDICAP, of 110 sovs.; one mile and five furlongs. Mary Brown scr ' yds bhd Zolock Wood scr Trumpeter 12 Richmond Fliton 12 Lass scr Derby Lynn 24 Welcome Crusader 24 Pearl scr Syringa 72 Trumpeter, Fliton and Derby Lynn, whose performances have been reviewed in an earlier race, will perhaps bo the hardest to dispose of in the mile and five furlongs event. Zolock Wood’s second to Good Lady at Wairarapa (over a mile only) makes him.a possibility. The others of the field have not filled a place between them this season, barring a single second by Richmond Lass. Derby Lynn, Trumpeter and Fliton should do best. PALMERSTON NTH. HANDICAP, of 110 sovs.; two miles. Brian Bingen scr Tui Bells 24 yds bhd Real Todd 24 Bon Bingen 12 Peter Fashion 00 Black Palm 12 Miss Leda 120 A better performed field is carded for the Palmcrst/n North Handicap Peter Fashion, who has boon brought up from Addington, has recent form to recommend him, having won tlio Vauxhall Handicap at Forbury Park on January 27 and priorly this season having gained a first, two second and an unplaced. Ben Bingen’s efforts have been reviewed earlier. Brian Bingen ran a good second to King Peter , over a mile and a-half at Hawke’s Bay , while Real Todd has been knocking. . Miss Leda is a sort who is always likely to turn up but on tho course will probably find her handicap 100

big. It should bo a race between Peter Fashion, Bon Bingen and Brian Bingen. PRESIDENT ’S HANDICAP, of 125 sovs.; one mile and a-qiiartor. Lottie yds bhd Advance scr Vesuvius 13 Lady ' . Mate o’ Mine 21 Barrington ser Syringa 24 VaUrEVid scr High Sea 24 Item scr Our Patch 36 ; Cora Tacks scr Abundance 36' Tframie 36 Caprice 60 The day’s sport will bo brought to a close by what promises to be an excellent contest in the President’s Handicap among horses who will earlier have contested the Cup race. Cora Tacks may show up over the shorter distance, and High Sea will also bo favoured. The two horses of the bracket (Wakefield and Item) have been racing prominently at recent efforts, and are suited by a mile and a quarter. Abundance is another one who will prefer the race to the twomile Cup. Lady Barrington’s best efforts have recently been over longer distances. In a fine contest the most

difficult to dispose of may be Mate o’ Mine,' Wakefield and Abundance, will) Eora Tacks a front-line possibility.
