At the Auckland Police Court yesterday, Richard Thomas Jamieson, aged z2, was fined £25, or, as an alterna tive, two months’ goal, for assaulting Constable Vial who, while in plain clothes, interfered with a number of men fighting in the street. Accused ticked Constable Vial in the eye anu lip. The constable chased accused and caught him. Tho Palmerston North Borough Council last evening received the following resolution passed by the Hokowhita Ratepayers’ Association: ‘‘That thia meeting strongly protest against tho action of tho Council debiting half cost of footways to property owners, and also the expensive methods em, ployed in carrying out this class of work ; as we are confident that tha work could be performed by contract at a far lower cost.” The communication was merely received,.
