SENIOR CRICKET

Second Series in Final ROUND COMMENCED The second series in the third and Anal round of the senior matches of tho Manawatu Association’s championship was commenced on the Sportsground on Saturday in ideal weather. Palmerston disposed of School for exactly 100 runs and have commpiled 215 for the loss of one wicket, Pegdon rattling on over half the total. The match between Old Boys and R.S.A. is much more even. The honours so far rest with the exsoldiers, but the final issue is still in doubt. Old Boys have made 135 while R.SA. have lost seven wickets for 172. School t. Palmerston. On No 1 ground High School met Palmerston, tho undisputed leaders of the senior competition. School ' batted first and with the exception of O’Keefe (45), McHaffio (25) and Stonehouse (10) made no serious stand against their seasoned opponents, the score just reaching the century. Palmerston found the School bowling and the wicket easy, and put on 215 for the loss of one wicket. Pegden whose score of 115 not out included 19 fours and one five played an attractive innings being ably seconded by Ongley 47 not out. In fairness to School it must be stated that some of their best cricketers left at the end of 1927 thus undermining the team’s strength very mu' , i! Gordon: First Innings 86 (J Young GO) Cope 5 for 32. Second innings: 103 for 7 wickets (Metcalfe 43, J. Young 46 not out), Woodley 3 for 13. Gordon win by 16 runs on first innings. Phoenix: First innings 44 (Johanson 16), Second innings 68 (Jobanson 26) Wilson 8 wickets. Technical: First innings 109 (McLean 32, Wilson 28) Evans 5 for 29. Phoenix won by 1 run, 4 point win. Technical required 5 runs to win on last innings and only 4 remained to bat. They were all disposed of for 3 runs.
