GENEROUS RECLUSE BATTERED TO DEATH
Murders in England Baffle Scotland Yard th&ee killings within TEN DAYS [By Electric Cable-Copyright.] [Aust and N.Z. Cablij Association.] (Received Tuesday, 7.35 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 20. Tho resources of Scotland Yard have been fully taxed by throe baffling murders with, tho last ton days. Following night and day inquiries an arrest was made in connection with a Durham bank murder. Norman Elliott was formally charged and remanded. The post mortem revealed that the blow was deliberately aimed to cause death by a person with anatomical knowledge. No sooner had they made progress with this case when they were confronted with a strange crime at Budo, Cornwall, whore Richard Roadley, aged 84, a wealthy recluse but with a reputation for generosity for the needy, was battered to death in his home. His room was ransacked but a wallet containing £8 was lying on a chair. The Webb mystery is still unsolved.
