(From Our Own Correspondent.) I Miss Euby Hook, who has been at home for some months, has left for ) Christchurch to engage in clerical work. Mrs. J. A. Eoach, and her youngest daughter arc spending their holidays in Christchurch. Mrs. H. W. Knowles is spending a holiday with her sister Mrs. D. Young, Kiwitea. Mr. G. C. Franks had a narrow escape for his car, when their garage at Huntcrville was burnt down.' At a risk to nimsolf Mr. Franks drove- the car out with the hood on fire. Luckily this was soon put out, and the car escaped with burnt paint and hood. Mrs. T. Moynihau, Mrs. Hennessy, and Mrs. Butler arc away at the beach at Plimmerton. Mr. E. Christie has returned to his work at tho garage, after having been in Wellington, where ho again felt the effects of his recent operation. Mrs. Strachan, w r ife ,of Captain Strachan, of Greymouth, who had been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Gadliaidi Mangaore, for some time, suddenly collapsed and died on Monday morning, when packing for her return trip to Greymouth. Mrs. Strachan .who was 63 years old had been troubled with her heart. Tho combined Shannon and Tokomaru School Picnic was hold at Plimmerton on Saturday last. The train comprised twenty carriages which were filled to overflowing. A most enjoyable day was spent at the beach and the rcturfi train arrived home at 6 p.m. . , Shannon Co-operative Dairy Company's pay-out for tho month of January is 1/3J per lb. Mrs. and Mrs. J. S. Burgges and family have returned from their holidays at Waikanae. A Yankee Doubles Tourney at Mangaore resulted in a win for Messrs. Huntley and Symons (owe 14) for the men, and Hiss Blackwood and. Mrs. King (owe ,101 for the ladies. A meeting was held in the Methodist Church Hall on Thursday afternoo last, to consider tho inauguration of a local Branch of the Women’s Temperance Union. Miss A. •M. MoLay, organiser of the W.C.T.U. was present, and spoke on the aims and objects of the Society. It was decided to hold tho next meeting on March Bth at 2 p.m. in the Methodist Hall, when Mrs. Perryman of Foxton will give an address.
