MUNICIPAL BUSES CARRY FEWER FARES
OR. PITZHERBERT VIEWS POSITION AS ALARMING. “January shows a decrease to the extent of 5300 passengers and £55/16/7 revenue as against the same period of iast year,” reported Inspector P. G. Patton to £he Palmerston North Borough Council last night. “There is an amount of £26/6/3 in bus hire which is not included in the decrease, received by way of special buses for picnics. The only reason I can account for the decrease has been through tho line weather, as the service and fares, other than the weekly are the same. ’ ’ Councillor Pitzherbert: The Council should view with alarm this decrease in passengers. I don’t think the daylight saving has affected the traffic. If this goes on we shall have to consider the question of handing the buses over to private enterprise. It behoves the people of Palmerston North to give the buses more support. The Mayor: Too many motor-cars. Councillor W.Milverton agreed with Councillor Pitzherbert.
