HALCOMBE
The shortage of water is still very acute in many households. The heavy showers enjoyed by Feilding and other districts did not extend as far as Halcombc, which merely received enough to settle the dust. The whole district is beginning to present a very parched appearance and autumn feed for dairy herds is conspicuous by its absence. Under these conditions the output of cream must be expected to decline; although so far there arc no instances recorded of only milking once daily. Seldom, in the history of Halcombo has the Kabariki, Kangltikei riverside, been so popular, bathing parties, and picnic parties are of daily occurrence. Blackberries are commencing to ripen but the crop is suffering from the drought. Blackbirds are troublesome from the same cause, and fruit is demolished wholesale at a very premature stage. Personal. Mr. A. Hutton of Marton has been assigned the position of Postmaster' and is expected to take up his duties within a few days. The Cheltenham Dairy Companys payout for the month of January will bo 1/3.
