VINEGAR HILL BRIDGE

KIWITEA COUNTY IGNORED. i I BY EANGITISEI COUNTY COUNCIL I Certain proceedings in connection with extensive repairs to the Vinegar j< Hill Bridge which crosses* the Eangitikei River at the boundary between the Eaugitikci County and the Kiwitea County were severely criticized at Wednesday's meeting of the Kiwitea County Council. The chairman, Councillor L. TJ. M'Loan, said that the Council had ex- ' pcrionccd a good deal of trouble with the Eangitikei County Council over the - question of repairs to the bridge. Nego-ji tiations for reconstruction commenced;j some two years ago and since then the,Council had been ignored. Now it had ' been unofficially - learned that the.' Eangitikei County had accepted a tend-1 cr for the work. The Kiwitea County Council was meeting half the total cost of the work and the least the Eangitikei Council could have done was to,' fdvifo how matters were proceeding.! The whole.thing amounted to nothing, short of a gross lack of courtesy. The chairman then moved the following resolution: "T.hat the county clerk be instructed to -write to the Eangitikei' Corin'y Council disapproving of its action in failing to furnish a copy of. the plans and specification and notice of the acceptance of a tender and gen-/ orally ignoring this Council in connec- ; tion with the work of replacing a per-' tion of the Vinegar Hill Bridge over the Eangitikei River, the boundary bc-| tween- the Eangitikei and Kiwiteacounties,” j Councillor W. P. Shaw seconded the • motion and other Councillors fully cc-1 dorsed the chairman’s remarks. Councillor J. 11. Williamson consid- 1 . ered that the mattcr( should be referred to a higher authority and a previous l protest had not been responsible for, any improvement. !, The motion was carried unanimously. .
