WoodviUe Corrections. The secretary of the WoodviUe Dia trict Jockey Club advises that owing to the omission of words in the transmission of a telegram, the horses Yertigern and David Garrick were wrongly entered in the President’s Handicap (first day) and the Maharahara Handicap (second day), instead of tuc Woodvillo Cup and Autumn Handicap respectively. The stewards have therefore authorized the correction under Rule It, Part XV, p. 43, of the Rules of Racing. MANAWATU TROTS. Tlio annual trotting meeting of the Mahawatu Trotting Club is to be held on the Ashhurst Racecourse on Wednesday, the 7th March, and things in the trotting line arc getting busy the trotting enthusiasts in the district. With a view;, to getting a better class of'horses to compete at' the meeting and consequently giving liic public a greater interest in trotting the Stewards of the Club have wisely ■"tightened the limit of all tho races for tho forthcoming m.cting. The Club is no doubt doing the right thing, as the public want to sec good horses and will always go to tlio races where good horses arc to ho seen. The first race on the programme this year will be the Ladies’ Bracelet Handicap, of one mile and a-half, with a limit of 3.45, and carries a stake of 100 sovs. The limit lor the i Linton Handicap for unhoppled trotters has been reduced to 3.52, and also carries a stake of 100 sovs. What is known as tho slow two-mile race is the Stewards’ Handicap, and the limit on this occasion is 4.50 and should draw a better field than previously. Tho Munawatu Trotting Cup of 205 sovs .which includes a very handsome cup valued at 25 sovs presented to the club by the well-known fancy goods merchant and trotting owner, Mr J. it. McKenzie, is the fourth race, and is for horses that can do 4.40 or better. There arc many horses of this class in commission, and a good field should V-o expected. Horses that compete in tlio Radies’ Bracelet will have another opportunity of showing their worth in tlio Longbum Handicap of one mile and a-half, tho limit for which lias been llxed at 3.40. The club has further varied the programme by making the distance of the Pohangina Handicap one mile and 'five furlongs, -which is a popular distance for races in (rotting events in the South Island. Horses in this race will be handiI capped to do 3.57 or better, and it

should draw a good entry. The Palmerston. North Handicap of two miles is for unhopplod trotters and for horses that can tramp the journey in five minutes or better. This race has been tightened up five seconds on iast season’s programme. The President’s Handicap , of one mile and a-quartcr is another race for the Cup horses, and the limit of 2.5(1 is in keeping with the. Cup handicap, and should draw a good nomination. The stewards are to be commended for tightening up the classes and endeavouring to bring good class horses to the meeting to satisfy tbe wishes of the public, and it only remains for owners to respond liberally to ensure a successful meeting. Nominations close to-morrow, the ISth inst, at G p.m., with the secretary, Box 393, Palmerston North. Mr 11. Brinkman, of Christchurch, will declare the handicaps for the Manawatu Trots on Saturday, the 25th inst Mr R. Hatch will officiate as starter, and Mr J. Cameron w:lll hoist the numbers in the judge’s box. Before leaving on an extended trip to America Mr J. R. McKenzie, the well-known owner of trotting horses and gallopers, presented to the Manawatu Trotting Club a Silver Cup valued at 25 sovs, which has been attached to tbe Manawatu Trotting Club Handicaps for the forthcoming rncecting. The Cup is a very handsome trophy ,and is on exhibition at Messrs Goldfinch and Cousins now shop at the corner of the Square and Rangitikci Street, and will remain there until the eve of the meeting.
