AUSTRALIANS AT WICKET ALL DAY

472 For Nine Wickets Make it Practice Game

KIPPAX GETS FIRST CENTURY (Per Press Association.) NELSON, Last Night. Tho match against the Australians was concluded to-day. Tho game ended in a draw. The weather was perfect and the wicket, w'hich played well throughout, was faster than the first day. The creaso was occupied all day by the visitors, who. wero evidently more concerned with obtaining practice than winning. Ponsford and Kippax resuming, both quickly got going, and the rate of scoring was considerably faster than tho first day. The partnership produced 194 by classical cricket, and was a treat to watch. Tho century was knocked up in 96 minutes, whereas yesterday it took 70 minutes for 65. Ponsford was the first to go, being caught at square leg after making 86. Kippax went 'soon after with the first century of tho tour to his credit. Tho only chance each gave was early in tho innings, both being at tho crease about 23 hours. Richardson jn’oved a strong and crisp hitter, while Schneider, despite his lack of size, gave a most attractive display. Grimraett and Jackson knocked the bowling about, and added a good partnership for the seventh wicket, tho fourth century being hoisted after 43 houi's’ play. Tho innings closed at 5.50 with nino wickets for 472. Tho Nelson bowling lacked variety, but the fielding was excellent, tho catcher taken all being on the difficult side.
