ENGLAND AND THE OLYMPIAD
APPEAL POB FINANCE. [By Electric Cable-Copyright.] tAust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Thursday, 9.0 p.m.) LONDON, Ecb. 16. In striking contrast to the great German bid for the Olympic games is the position of the British Olympic athletes. Thirteen of the most noted performers in the 1921 games are broadcasting a press appeal for funds to allow a worthy team to participate. They say it would bo idle to pretend that Britain always expects to bo on top in sport, but those interested were auxi ous that she sould be represented at the Olympic games. The best men and women in other countries have been given Government subsidies. Wo believe, however, that it is in the best interests of sport that, our teams should be financed voluntarily.”
