ROMNEY SHEEP BREEDERS

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders’ Association was held at the Showgrounds yesterday afternoon Mr. J. E. Hewitt presiding over a good attendance of members. Arising out of the minutes the president reported that the council did not take any action in regard to the recommendation of the last annual meeting as to the imposition of fines for late entries for the flock hook, as the issue was fully dealt with under rule 45.

The annual report and balance sheet (already published) was read and adopted. The council unanimously agreed to support the proposal that the Hoy a? Show should be held in the Autumn. It was decided to atlot the Wheeler Memorial Shield to the Hawke’s Bay A. and P. Association. The North Island Championship Shield was alloted to the Wairarapn and East Coast Jubilee Show. The North Island Autumn Shield was alloted to Dannevlrke A. and P. Association. The South Island Autumn Shield was alloted to, the Royal Show to be held in Christchurch. Election of Officers. Officers were elected’ as follows: President Mr Q. Donald (Featherston); treasurer, Mr W. F. Jacob (Klwitea): Auditors; Messrs J. Corpe and A. H. Maguire (Feildlng); committee, Messrs G. E. Allen, J. H. Grig'g, J. Knight, W. K. Morton and’ R. Tanner. Other Business. A motion by Mr A. C. Morton that the president hold office for two years produced an animated discussion and was subjected to an amendment by Mr W. Perry that the president shall not hold office for more than two years In succession. The voting was even and ended in no alteration being made in the rules . The following motion moved by Mr A. S. Murry "that all registered ewes, except those already tattooed N.Z.R.M., by the Inspectors appointed by the Council must be inspected, tattooed, reported upon and approved by the Council, and thereafter all shearling ewes be inspected and tattooed annually,” was discusses! at length. As an amendment Mr Perry moved “that the Council go fully into the question of general inspection of flocks and report to the next annual meeting, (1) the cost; (2) how that cost is, to be met; (3) whether satisfactory inspection can be procured.” The amendment was carried.
