Finality was not reached to-day in the trial of the Indian herbalist, Abraham Wally Mohamed Salaman, on six charges of attempted false pretences. . Several of these witnesses said they had been treated by doctors for years without result. Three months’ gaol was imposed to-day on, Ernest Hodge, alias Wilson, aged 32, who, unauthorised, received deposits, and failed to account to. his employers for £G 15s as an advertising canvasser on a commission basis. Accused, it was stated, had been previously convicted on two charges at Auckland, FISHED WITHOUT SPECIAL LICENSE. CONVICTION ENTERED WITHOUT FINE. WAIROA; Last Night. In the Police Court, to-day A. Mc-N-ae was convicted without a fine for not taking out’a special fishing license for Lake Waikaremoana. \ The Tourist Department did not press for a' penalty as it is not generally known that the ordinary Dominion' licenses is’not 1 available for the lake- special ones are necessary. A steward on the steamer Middlesex, Frank Herbert Upton ,aged 17, was remanded until to-morrow for sentence by Mr. E., Page. CANVASSER GUILTS' OF FALSE PRETENCES. WELLINGTON, April 6. Edward William King, a canvasser, of Wellington pleaded guilty before Mr E". Page, S.M., to four charges of false pretences in respect to cheques presented to an Auckland publican and dishonoured. Counsel said that, restitution would be made if accused were granted probation. ■ ' King was remanded until to-morrow for sentence. IIOTOK LICENSE SUSPENDED FOR YEAR. CARRIER DRUNK IN CHARGE OF LORRY. HAMILTON, Last Night. A Kihikihi carrier, Claude James Coutts, was fined, £lO, and had his driver’s license suspended for a year for being drunk while in charge of a jnotof lorry.
