The old pupils of the Convent School held a most successful dance In the Oddfellows Hall on Tuesday night. Bramwell’s Elite Orchestra supplied the muslci The spot waltz was won by Mr and Mrs A. Pearse and the Monte Carlo dance by Miss R. Stringer and Mr. R. Strawbridge . Messrs R .Murphy and Collins were the M’s. C. The Borough staff have undertaken improvements to the roadway fronting the Catholic Church in Derby Street. For some time past it has been felt that this locality required attention and now that suitable parking areas have been provided ror motor vehicles the congestion formerly experienced will disappear. The footpaths have also received attention in preparation for receiving a coat of tar. . Monckton and Monmouth Streets have also been touched up and dressed with a layer of gravel which has been rolled in. At the Denbigh Hotel last evening presentations were made to Mr and Mrs Harry Dooley on the occasion of their departure on a holiday trip to England and Ireland. Mr Dooley who was for several years proprietor of the Denbigh Hotel enjoyed widespread popularity from all sections of the community and no small share of this was earned by Mrs Dooley, a hostess of rare qualities. ■'The Oroua Branch of the United > Dlcensed Victuallers Association presented Mr Dooley with a gold mounted fountain pen and to Mrs Dooley ,a gold pencil. Friends who had decided to mark the occasion with some tangible appreciation of their friendship, presented Mr Dooley with a leather suitcase and Mrs Dooley'with a travelling rug. The good wishes of the community were expressed irt happy speeches followed by cheers for Mr and Mrs Dooley who leave. Feilding thl smorning fop (Wellington.
