THE GIVERS OF BLOOD
QUESTION OP SACRIFICE. DEBATERS DIFFER IN VIEWS. Is blood transfusion a sacrifice, or is it an ordinary process to which any normal person can submit without any fear of dangerous consequences ? This question was raised at a recent meeting in Cardiff by Mr. P. L.-Oliver, honorary secretary of the London Blood Transfusion Service. Mr. Oliver ridiculed the belief that blood transfusion is a sacrifice of vital fluid involving extreme heroism on the part of the donors with serious consequences to health. He said that of nearly 1500 cases in London no blood donor had been any the worse in health for their action. Sir Ewen J. Maclean, presidentelect of the British Medical Association, and county chairman of the British Red Cross Society, said he differed from Mr. Oliver concerning sentiment in blood transfusion.
