TRAIN WRECKERS AGAIN ACTIVE
Sleeper on Rais at Fitzroy Street Crossing NARROW ESCAPE OP GOODS TRAIN Another dastardly attempt at train-wrecking wasmade on Saturday night, when a sleeper was placed across the Wanganui lino in the vicinity of the Terrace End station and at what is known as tho Fitzroy street crossing. The train that ran into the obstruction was a goods from Marton due into Palmerston North at 10.40 p.m., but which happened to be running a little late. When the driver felt the bump he immediately applied the brakes and an examination revealed that the cow-catcher of the engine was extensively buckled and a portion stove in. After a delay of about half-aa-hour, the train proceeded slowly into Palmerston North which was reached at about 11.48 p.m. •■: / ; ? ■ Ten months have elapsed since the last attempts at derailment, when the Government decided to offer a reward of £BOO for Information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
