Up to the present, 543,588 British ■war graves ' have been registered in Franco and Belgium, and 20 out or 950 war cemeteries completed. In addition there are 1500 churchyards, where small groups of British dead lie.

The bodies of British soldiers are still being recovered at the rate of thirty weekly, mainly by farmers and builders in the devastated areas. It is still possible to identify those in most cases, and they are reburied with military honours immediately.
