HIDE AND SKIN SALE
WELLINGTON, Saturday. The usual fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries was held yesterday, when fair-sized catalogues were submitted to a fully representative attendance of buyers. There was a good demand for all dry and salted skins at prices slightly easier than previous quotations. Hides met with a fair competition for all grades. Medium and heavyweights wore Id to Id per lb lower than late rates, while lights, yearlings and calf sold on a par. Inferior lots were hard to quit and sold at low rates. Good shipping parcels of tallow wore in request, prices being a shade hotter than previous quotations. The following is the range of prices:— Sheepskins.—Half-bred, IOJd to 13id; fine crossbred, 10id to T3sd; medium-coarse crossbred, 10d to ll'jd: short to half-wools, Sid to lambs, lid to 123 d; dead and damaged crossbred, fiijd to 10}d: inferior and badly damaged, 4d to 73d; pelts, 7d to 9ld: damp, salted and green, (is to 11/6; pelts, salted, 2/6 to 3/7; lambs, salted, 2/1 to 2/6. Hides. —Heavies and mediums, Id to 5d down. Lights, kip, yearlings and calf on a par. We quote: Ox. ex. heavy, 7ftlb and over. Did to slid; heavy, 591 b to 69 II), SJ.d to Sjd; medium. 521 b to 5S lb, 7id to S 1-Sd; light. 451 b to 52 lb, Oid to 7id; cut, slippy and inferior, lid to did; cow, heavy, 53 Hi and over. 6ld to 6 7-Sd; medium, 451 b to 521 h, 6td to 63d; light, 331 h to 441 b, 6id to 6 7-Sd: cut. slippy and inferior, lid to 6d; bull, stag, S 1-Sd to 4d; yearlings. 111 b to 16 lb, 7id to Sid: yearlings, 171 bto 321 b. fild to 7Jd: calf, superior, up to 101 b, 12Jd: medium-good, up to 101 b, Hi to 12Id: damaged, up to 101 b, 3d to 9d.
Tallow on a par. In casks. 23/6 to 33/-; in tins, etc., 16/- to 29/-.
Sundries. —Horse hair, 20.1 Jto 21 id. The next sale will bo hold on 12lh November.
