You will find thick stockings better than thin ones when tramping, but more comfortable still is a pair of sills socles, worn inside out under • yonr ordinary ones. You won’t get all the help you should from your walking stick unless it’s the right height. Whoa your stick rests on the ground (put it close to your instep) the handle should come about two inches and a-hal£ higher than the, crotch of your thumb and first finger. Measure it carefully, and get a stickmo kor to cut it down if lt‘s too long, and to put on a new ferrule. you will probably find your feet tender when you start walking unless you’re a regular walker. There is nothing better for this than soaping, with slightly damped yellow soap, inside the sole of your stocking. Yon won’t rest yourself hy lounging along when you feel weary. Call a halt and rest for five to ten minutes. Try. it you can, to rest with yonr feet propped up. You will find it horribly tiring if you have to adjust your pace to anyone else’s. Find your own stride and stick to it. after a heavy meal. If you are on a tramp, take your big meal at the Yon won’t bo able to walk well end of the day when walking is over. A snack is Iho walker’s best mid-day refreshment. And beware of fizzy drinks. Yon will find rubber heels of crepe solos a boon and a blessing. They absorb the Inevitable shock of the shoe on n hard road, which otherwise jars the spine and may cause a severe headache.
