GORGE SLIP

ATTRACTS BARGE 'CROWD OF SIGHT-SEERS. SLUICING OPERATIONS STARTED. Availing themselves of the line weather yesterday, a large number o£ people visited the Gorge by road, to view the slip which has blocked the railway line for a week now. There ’was a continual stream of cars in and out of the thoroughfare, the sight-seers coming from ail directions. Many people spent hours watching the gang at work across the river, and took great interest in the proceedings. The sluice was sot in operation and although effective in removing large quantities of earth with less risk to the workmen, it was quite apparent that some days will elapse before a reasonable impression as made upon the huge landslide.
