Mr. V. Salck, of General Motors, is staying at the Hotel Imperial. Mr. J. Matheson, touring manager for Messrs. John Fuller and Sons, Ltd., is at present in Palmerston North arranging for the season here of; Irving’s midgets and the Chefalo Palermo Company, on November 12. Mr. K. B. Gothard, Woodville, who has been in the Dannevirke Hospital for some weeks, and whose condition has caused much anxiety, was operated on last week, and is reported to bo making satisfactory progress. Eight Palmerston North residents left London on October 16 and should arrive via wayside ports about the first week in December. The party are; Mrs., Miss and Mr. G. H. Bennett, Mrs., Miss and Mr. J. Bett, and Mr. Jj Balsillle. Mr. B. M. Kibblewhite, headmaster of the Eketahuna District High School, and formerly of Dannevirke South and OrmondviUe, has been recommended for the position of headmaster at the Carterton High School, in succession to Mr. J. E. Edie, who has been appointed to Wellington South. Nurse Kearns, of the Plunket Society, who was in charge of the Palmerston North branch for a period and left to take charge of the work at the Dunedin Exhibition, returned to Palmerston North last evening, and will resume her duties in charge of the local branch to-day. Nurse Nicholson, who has been relieving in Palmerston North for the past three months, leaves to-day for Auckland where she will take up relieving work.

Dr. W. J. MacDonald, late of Shannon, who has been for the last two years taking a special course of study in Edinburgh and London, returned to the Dominion on Wednesday last, and is at present the guest of Mr. and Mrs. S. Austin, of Moutoa. Whilst in Britain. Dr. MacDonald was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and received the Diploma of Laryngology and Otology of London. He intends to commence practise in Wellington as specialist

Miss C. B. Mills. M.A., lady principal of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School, has been appointed to succeed Miss Lorimer, who has retired on superannuation, as principal of the Nelson Girls’ College, states a Press Association message from Nelson. Miss Mills joined the staff of the co-edu-cational High School in Palmerston North in 1902 as assistant mistress and was on the staff for five years before joining the staff of the Waitaki Girls’ High School. Subsequently, Miss Mills joined the staff of the Christchurch Technical College as senior mistress, a post she had held for eight years. On the formation of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School in 1920, Miss Mills was appointed principal, and has been very largely responsible for the success of the school in the scholastic and athletic field.
