NOTES OF THE DAY
Messrs. Heald and Parsonage were appointed the visiting committee for the Lytton street school for the ensuing month.
Mrs. Eggers, who has been in charge of the Waituna school for the past seven years, and who has been promoted to the Whakarongo School, was met on Tuesday afternoon by the School Committee, parents and scholars, and presented with a handsome tea-set as a token of high esteem. Mrs. Pearce, on behalf of members of the Tennis Club, presented Mrs. Eggers with a beautiful vase.
At the Foresters’ Hall euchre party and dance, held on Wednesday evening, the winners were Mrs. A. G. Fidler and Mr. Stan Kitchen, whilst Miss Goldsack and T. Ritchie annexed the consolation prizes. Mr. Eric Bramwell supplied the dance music, and Mr. G. Wood acted as M.C. Commissioner James Hay, the new head of the Salvation Army for New Zealand, will pay an official visit to Fcilding next Wednesday. At a meeting of the Hylton Street, School committee on Wednesday evening the chairman (Mr J. Penney) made feeling reference to the death of Mr. Fred Pirani who. did noblo work in the cause of education. A motion of sympathy with his family and relatives was carried by the members standing in silence.
