CRUSHED BY A LIFT
DOUBLE WELL! N G TON FATALITY.
[Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON,'Last Night,
Two storemen, John Willis, a married man with four children, a resident of Brooklyn, and Phillip Allan, a single man, of Newtown, were this morning found dead, crushed under a lift at the foot of a well in Howden’s buildings. Both were employed by at the time, and no one saw the men tragedy, but it is thought that they were looking down the shaft when the lift descended upon them, giving no chance to jump clear. Very little additional information is available as to the exact manner in which the victims of the lift accident met their death. No one was present at the time, and no saw the men except about 10 minutes before the fatality occurred. No one heard cries. One supposition is that the men were looking over the top of the bar, under the impression that the lift was below, when it descended on their heads, inflicting terrible injuries.
