DAIRY PRODUCE BOARD

CHEESE PREMIUMS—BUTTER WEIGHTS. In a circular to dairy companies, tho New Zealand Dairy Produce Board states: “In connection with tho premiums being given by tho board on ‘finest’ cheeso of Jd per lb, and 4d per cwt for making coloured cheese, it w r as felt that the work entailed in arranging for this could bo considerably reduced if those premiums were made at a rate per crate, instead of as previously arranged. Tho board decided at its meeting on October 7th that until further notice the premium fot ‘finest’ choose should be 3s 4d per crate, and the premium for making coloured cheeso 6d per crate. It will bo noticed that the actual premiums are practically the same a» originally arranged. "The board is anxious that dairy companies should watch carefully the weight of butter. On the present standard weight of parchment, which weighs about 4oz. for each box of butter, it is considered that sGib 6oz. gives' a safe margin. There is a tendency, however, to use heavier parchment, and on a standard weight of 561 b. Goz. this would reduce the actual aet weight of butter in each box. This point requires careful attention on the part of dairy companies.”
