LOCARNO PACT FOR INDUSTRY
URGENT NECESSITY IN EUROPE,
[By Electric Cable— Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Tuesday. 10.35 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 12.
A Berlin evening paper publishes an article by Sir Robert Horne, stating that the only chance of salvation for the economic life of Europe, lies in a Locarno Pact for industry. The stoppage of the coal industry in Britain is threatening wide circles of trade with collapse. Depression is rampant in the ship-building, shipping, woollen, and cotton trades, and 1926 is one of the most difficult years Brittain has ever known. It is urgently necessary to stabilize British industry, by co-operation with European competitors, instead of cutthroat competition.
